Major Accident Blocks Highway 24 at Rush Hour

A major accident is currently blocking Highway 24 in the Westbound direction going towards the city, around the Happy Valley Road exit. The accident was blocking the center lanes and had resulted in large delays as of approximately 8:30am on Friday morning.

The Bay Area Telegraph was on the scene, and observed a large SUV, likely either a Jeep or Landrover, that appeared to have collided with the center divider and was blocking the left lane. (Pictured above). California Highway Patrol officers and a tow truck were on the scene.

A fire engine was blocking portions of the lefthand lanes, and debris was strewn into the roadway.

Traffic appeared to be passing at a slow speed in the righthand lanes. However, major backups had already occurred and had spilled onto other surface roads, causing delays on Pleasant Hill Boulevard.

If you’re able, avoid the area during your morning commute.

The Bay Area Telegraph is continuing to follow this story and will provide updates.

CHP reports that the collision resulted in a spill. As of 8:54 AM all lanes were open but the disabled vehicle remained on the roadway. Major delays are continuing.
