Fatal Shooting Homicide Reported on Taylor Boulevard in Lafayette

A fatal shooting took place on March 23, 2022 on Taylor Boulevard near the Pleasant Hill border in unincorporated Lafayette, California. The shooting took place around mid-day. According to reporting from Claycord, the shooting was initially considered an “apparent road rage incident.”

Claycord reported that a person in a black BMW stepped out of their vehicle and shot another person in another vehicle in the stomach. KTVU reported that the shooting was suspected to be fatal, as a news helicopter spotted what was suspected to be a body on the street.

The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s department confirmed that the shooting was fatal in a statement sent to the Bay Area Telegraph:

Sheriff’s Office Investigates Homicide

At about 1:06 PM, Muir Station Deputy Sheriffs were dispatched to a report of a shooting in the unincorporated area of Taylor Road and Gloria Terrace.

Deputies arrived on scene to find bystanders providing lifesaving measures to a person on the ground near a vehicle. The victim, who appeared to have been shot, was pronounced deceased at the scene. He is not being identified at this time.

The investigation by Sheriff’s Office Homicide Detectives and the crime lab is ongoing. The suspect is outstanding at this time.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division at (925) 313-2600 or through Sheriff’s Office dispatch at (925) 646-2441. For any tips, email: tips@so.cccounty.us or call (866) 846-3592 to leave an anonymous voice message.”

The Bay Area Telegraph confirmed that Taylor Boulevard remained closed between Withers and Grayson as of approximately 4:30pm in the afternoon.

Police tape was present on Taylor, and a unit of Lafayette Parking Enforcement was blocking the road. Cars were backed up in both directions. A helicopter circled overhead, and several news vehicles had set up outside the perimeter of the police line.

The Lafayette Police Nixle stated that “Road closed until further notice. Police on scene, not an active incident, no threat to the public.”

As seen in the photo above, authorities were present in large numbers at the scene of the alleged shooting. A tent was erected on the road, presumably to shield police as they worked on the scene on a day where temperatures reached into the 80s.

We are continuing to follow this story. Stay tuned to the Bay Area Telegraph for additional updates as the story develops.
