
According to the Contra Costa Fire Protection District, two people and a small dog have unfortunately died in a fire at a Countrywood townhome .
At around 7:40am, the Fire Protection District shared on its Twitter page that the 2 alarm fire had been reported and that they were responding. The account shared photos of the fire consuming a small townhome in the Walnut Creek area.
Shortly after arrival, the fire was reportedly extinguished. Unfortunately, though, the fire resulted in two fatalities.
“Townhouse 2 alarm fire on Countrywood, WC has resulted in two fatalities, a third victim escaped and treated at scene,” the department said on its Twitter page.
Later, the department shared that an “Elderly female & adult son on 2nd floor died in blaze as did a small dog.”
Initially, the blaze was under investigation, but it was quickly determined to be accidental.
“This am’s Countrywood Ct. fire was accidental. Area of origin a 1st floor bed with prelim ignition source believed to be smoking materials. An oxygen machine contributed to rapid fire spread,” the department said.
