San Francisco's iconic Cliff House restaurant sadly closed in 2022. But the restaurant has risen from the ashes before.

The Cliff House originally opened in 1863. It was a tiny outpost perched above the Pacific Ocean.

in 1881, millionaire Adolph Sutro rebuilt the Cliff House as a stunning Victorian castle

Tragically, the masterpiece burned down in 1907, just one year after the 1906 earthquake.

In 1909, the building that still stands today was constructed. Shown here in the 1970s, it's an SF classic.
