Pleasanton Police Say Arrest Made in Storage Unit Burglary Spree

PLEASANTON, CALIFORNIA – If you’re not careful, your clutter could soon become someone else’s payday.

That’s the message from the Pleasanton, California police. The department said in a statement that in late December, they nabbed a thief who had been allegedly breaking into local storage units and stealing what appears to be everything from power tools to foosball tables.

In a Dec. 23 update, police said investigators served a search warrant at a residence in Castro Valley, where they located “numerous stolen and suspected stolen items.” Police also shared photos of what appeared to be recovered property and packed boxes.

Police said a 44-year-old man was arrested and booked into the Alameda County Jail on charges related to the burglaries. The department did not release the suspect’s name, and said the investigation remains ongoing.

Have a storage unit of your own? Here’s the department’s tips for keeping it safe from marauders:

  • Use a high-quality disc or cylinder lock
  • Avoid storing valuables in plain view
  • Report suspicious activity around storage facilities right away

Personally, if someone stole a lot of my clutter, I might actually thank them. Perhaps a re-read of Marie Kondo’s Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up is in order?
