Oakley Locked Down After Gunman Fires at Sheriff’s Deputy

OAKLEY, CA — Authorities ordered a lockdown in part of Oakley on Monday, January 12, 2026 after an armed suspect allegedly fired at a Contra Costa County sheriff’s deputy and then fled, prompting a neighborhood-wide search. (KTVU FOX 2 San Francisco)

According to law enforcement, the shooting was reported in the 4300 block of Gold Run Drive in Oakley’s Neroly neighborhood at about 11:30 a.m. (CBS News)

Officials said the suspect was still at large as of Monday afternoon and Oakley police officers were assisting sheriff’s deputies in the search. (KTVU FOX 2 San Francisco)

What authorities are telling residents to do

Police urged people in the immediate area to shelter in place — go inside, close and lock doors and windows, and report anything suspicious. (ABC7 San Francisco)

Officials also warned residents to stay off the phone and not call 911 unless it’s a life-threatening emergency.

Authorities asked the public to avoid several nearby streets while the search continues, including Gold Run Drive, Lariat Lane, Placer Drive, Prospect Court, Sutter Street, El Dorado Street, Sonora Court, and Silverado Drive.

Suspect description

Authorities described the suspect as a white man in his mid-40s, last seen wearing a hat and a gray hooded sweatshirt. (KTVU FOX 2 San Francisco)

ABC7 reported the area of concern included nearby streets around Neroly Road, Oakley Road, and Empire Avenue.
