Casper’s Hot Dogs In Walnut Creek Closing Permanently

The popular Casper’s Hot Dog restaurant in Walnut Creek, California will reportedly close permanently after 40 years in operation. The restaurant is slated to close in April of 2023.

On a recent visit, the Bay Area Telegraph confirmed that the restaurant is still currently open and operating as of March.

High Rent in Walnut Creek

The high cost of rent in Walnut Creek was reportedly the reason behind the beloved local hot dog restaurant’s impending closure. The location on Newell Road in Walnut Creek will reportedly be replaced by a Jersey Mike’s subs restaurant, a national chain.

Casper’s in Walnut Creek is located directly across from the recently renovated and revamped Broadway Plaza. Several local stores in Walnut Creek felt the pinch of increased rents, which many attribute to the arrival of big-name, upscale Broadway Plaza stores.

Even the Barnes and Noble in Walnut Creek closed due to high rent. It later reopened in a new location.

Other Casper’s Locations to Remain Open

Despite the closure of the Walnut Creek Casper’s Hot Dogs restaurant, the local chain’s other locations will reportedly remain open. Hot dog lovers in Walnut Creek can drive to nearby Pleasant Hill, California to get a Casper’s hot dog after the closure.

The Dublin, California location, which is on our list of the top Dublin restaurants, will remain open as well.

It’s a sad day for hot dog fans in Walnut Creek, as our beloved local Caspers faces the end of its days.
