San Francisco’s Latest Bizarre Trash Can Solves a $700 Million Problem

San Francisco is infamous for spending up to $20,000 apiece on customized trash cans. Now, a new Bay Area trash can has emerged that will solve a $700 million per year problem.
That problem? Pizza boxes.
Most people carelessly throw their pizza boxes into their standard recycling bin. But that’s incredibly destructive.
According to San Jose Recycles, greasy pizza boxes are nearly impossible to recycle. These contaminated boxes reportedly gum up recycling equipment and ruin loads of otherwise recyclable materials.
The cost? A cool $700 million per year in equipment damage and lost revenue.
The Bay Area’s newest type of bespoke trash can aims to solve this problem. It’s a special trash receptacle designed specifically for collecting dirty pizza boxes, so they can be properly composted.

The Bay Area Telegraph recently spotted one of these bizarre new, specialized cans in a Bay Area park. They’re massive, square, and ready for your cheesy waste.
For now, the cans appear to be available only in parks. At home, you’ll have to remember to throw your pizza boxes into the green bin.
But for especially pizza-obsessed homes, who knows? Maybe a personal pizza box recycling bin could be in your future.

Who ever negotiates prices on items SF buys should be in prison or work on wall street if he could sell someone a $20k garbage can… Unbelieveable
