Marugame Udon Added a Crunchy New Item to Their Menu

Marugame Udon is one of my favorite places in the Bay Area to get delicious traditional udon noodles. I love that they prepare the noodles right in front of you as you wait!

They also have a unique and innovative twist; alongside your udon, you can add various tempura items from a large tempura bar.

There are things like chicken katsu, tempura vegetables, tempura shrimp, and more.

But recently, Marugame Udon introduced a new item to enjoy alongside your soup. What’s the new item on the menu, appearing alongside the other fried items at their tempura bar?

Marugame Udon just rolled out gyoza, traditional Japanese dumplings as our newest menu item. They’re delicious little fried nuggets of pork and spices that are the perfect complement to the rich and creamy soup.

Make no mistake, these are fried dumplings, not steamed ones. The outside of these dumplings is as crispy as a piece of tempura.

We tried them at the location in Bishop Ranch in San Ramon, California, and they were delicious.

The move into the world of dumplings is probably a response to an overall dumpling trend in the Bay Area and beyond. Places like Din Tai Fung, Dumpling Time, and United Dumplings have been innovating in the dumpling space for a while now, and Marugame Udon seems to want in on the action.

We really like the new direction Marugame Udon is taking, and we hope they introduce some more new (hopefully fried!) items to the menu.
