Walnut Creek, California is fast becoming the ice cream capital of the East Bay! This year, we got Handel’s, and Lottie’s has been operating in the city for years. Ditto with San Francisco Creamery.
So it was with both joy and a bit of disbelief that we saw a new ice cream place is getting ready to open in downtown Walnut Creek. Yes, another one!
This new place is Annie’s Ice Cream Italian Gelato. It’s right next to the new Dough Zone store on Locust Street, right in the thick of downtown.
We tried to do some digging about Annie’s Ice Cream, but we learned very little! This new place isn’t exactly in stealth mode–there’s a big sign that’s already been installed on the front of the store–but we haven’t figured out many details yet.
Still, it’s great news for Walnut Creek. We love Italian gelato, and a good gelato place compliments Walnut Creek’s already thriving American ice cream scene.
It’s also great to see storefronts in Walnut Creek and throughout the 925 filling up with tenants again!

Hi,
Really don’t need more ice cream. How about a good jewish deli? Sorely missing from the walnut creek restaurant scene. Gotta go to sauls in berkeley and they’re just ok. Funny, how many great delis there are in LA, but none here. Guess the jewish population here doesn’t warrant one. Sad
I agree, it would be awesome! Have you tried Loveski up in Larkspur? For a while they had Wise Sons and Oren’s Hummus at Local Kitchens in Lafayette but that’s the closest we got.
