El Talpense Restaurant is Now Open in Lafayette, California

El Talpense Mexican Restaurant has officially opened its doors in Lafayette, taking over the former Lavash spot on Mount Diablo Boulevard. This new location is the restaurant’s second, following its original site in Berkeley.

As we predicted, El Talpense opened very quickly! This appears to be because the new restuarant has maintained much of the previous layout of Lavash, including its popular sidewalk terrace, offering outdoor seating for those who prefer to dine al fresco.

Colorful papel picado banners decorate both the interior and exterior of the restaurant, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere. Inside, the bright red-orange walls are adorned with traditional Mexican decorations.

The Menu

El Talpense Menu

El Talpense’s menu offers a wide range of traditional Mexican dishes, with a variety of combination plates and burritos.

Lunchgoers can choose from large and small combinations, featuring classic options like enchiladas, tacos, tamales, and chile relleno, all served with rice and beans.

The “Super Burrito” section of the menu offers hearty options filled with favorites like carne asada, pollo asado, carnitas, or shrimp, served with guacamole, sour cream, and pico de gallo. For lighter meals, the restaurant also offers salads and soups such as albóndigas (Mexican meatball soup) and tortilla soup.

Appetizers include familiar favorites such as nachos, quesadillas, and jalapeño poppers. Those looking to share can enjoy larger plates like fajitas and botanas (snack platters), perfect for a group meal.

Heads up–with entrees around $20, El Talpense is on the pricier side, relative to other classic Mexican places in Lafayette.

El Talpense looks to be quickly becoming a popular lunchtime spot. We stopped by to check it out around lunch and the interior was busy (sorry for the blurry photo).
