Help Save Historic Sites from Wildfire: Volunteer at Marshall Gold Discovery Park

Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park in Coloma, CA, is offering upcoming volunteer opportunities through the California State Parks Foundation.

Volunteers are invited to help create defensible space around the historic Thompson House to reduce wildfire risk. The work will include clearing brush, soil, debris, and tall grasses to establish a 5-foot perimeter around the building.

The cleared area will then be filled with decomposed granite, which helps create a fire-resistant barrier around the structure.

The volunteer workdays are scheduled for:

  • Friday, October 18, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
  • Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Participants must be 16 or older, and minors must be accompanied by an adult with a signed waiver. To register or learn more, visit this link.
