Shiny, Crime-Proof New Fare Gates Under Installation at Lafayette BART

LAFAYETTE, CALIFORNIA – The Lafayette BART station is officially getting new, fare-evader-resistant gates.

The Bay Area Telegraph confirmed on a recent visit that the new gates are currently being installed. With tall, swinging glass doors instead of the original turnstiles, the gates are more modern and harder to jump.

Fare evasion has always been a problem on BART, and the system is getting sick of lost revenue to fare evaders.

A BART staff member told us the new gates would take at least one week to install.

They are the same style as the new gates currently installed at the Embarcadero station in the city.

We look forward to seeing the shiny new gates at work!
