Thieves rammed a car into the front of the CVS pharmacy in Lafayette, California, in the early hours of Thursday morning.
When I was driving my kids to school in the morning, I passed by the CVS pharmacy and saw a gaping hole and shattered glass at the front.
Later on, I stopped by to find out what had happened. Apparently, thieves attempted to steal the ATM just inside the door.
They reportedly tried to ram the building with a vehicle.
As of the morning, the CVS was closed, and shattered glass and damaged pieces of the wall littered the ground.
The front door was left wide open.
Staff members attempted to assist customers who stopped by to pick up their medications despite the damage. They were very professional in explaining what had happened overnight.
Although we weren’t able to confirm it, it did not appear that the would-be robbers were successful in taking the ATM. The damage will certainly take time to clean up.
Nearby, residents remarked on how scary it was that this had happened in their usually sleepy community. These kinds of smash-and-grab robberies—especially those involving a vehicle—are more common than ever in the 925 and surrounding areas.
We’re glad that it appears nobody at the store was injured in the robbery attempt. We’ll keep following this developing story.
