A new Afghan cuisine restaurant is now open in Concord, California, and the food looks great.
We originally reported on the future opening of Mazza restaurant last year. We didn’t know too much about it, other than the fact that it would include steaks and mocktails.
Now, Mazza is open for business in Concord. According to the restaurant’s website, Mazza was started by two Afghan immigrants who came to the United States from Afghanistan after serving alongside the U.S. military.

They brought their Afghan and Mediterranean flavors to the Bay Area. Even in our diverse culinary scene, you don’t see Afghan food a lot!
The menu at Mazza features appetizers like Ashak dumplings, bolani flatbread, and a variety of different kebabs.

They also have classic rice dishes on the menu, as well as a karahi menu with items like lamb and chicken.
The steak menu has a single steak – a 12-ounce ribeye. There are also burgers for people who are a bit reluctant about trying these new flavors!
Prices are very reasonable, especially by Bay Area standards. A simple beef burger will cost you around $11, and the kebabs are priced from $14 to $15.

Locals are praising the food, but also the large space, big portions, and good prices.
Some said that staffing wasn’t sufficient for busy Saturday nights. But for those who visited on quieter nights, they found the hospitality from the chef-owners to be a great feature of the restaurant.

If you’re looking to try a different cuisine, or if you’ve been searching for Afghan food for a while – check Mazza out.
It’s located at 1985 Willow Pass Road in Concord. You can visit the website mazzataste.com.
