There are plenty of fantastic reasons to live in Lafayette, California. Great schools, nice weather, safety, and some amazing restaurants are solid ones.
But the Lafayette area’s natural and human-made beauty is another super compelling reason to live here. As locals, we compiled some of the city’s most iconic and beautiful spots.
7. Lafayette Library and Learning Center

The Lafayette Library and Learning Center is not just a place for books; it’s a modern, vibrant community hub. The building’s architecture is striking, and its interiors are warm and welcoming.
The outdoor seating areas and gardens provide a peaceful retreat, making it a wonderful spot for relaxation and contemplation.
We wrote a whole article just about its unique, Craftsman-inspired interior.
6. The Park Theatre

Currently sitting dormant, the Park Theatre is a stunning example of an Art Deco movie house located right in downtown Lafayette. Plans are underway to renovate it back to its former glory, and the community has already raised millions of dollars to make it happen!

The Park is still lovely even in its dormant state. But you can imagine how beautiful it will be when the lights on the iconic marquee come back on and it mirrors Orinda Theatre in its antique charm.
5. Town Hall Theatre
This historic theatre, built in 1914, is a cultural gem in Lafayette. The quaint, ivy-covered building is picturesque and has a charming, old-world feel. The beautifully maintained interiors and the rich history of the theatre make it a must-visit spot for both art enthusiasts and history buffs.
4. Lafayette Community Park

Lafayette Community Park is a lush, green space ideal for families and nature lovers. With well-maintained trails, picnic areas, and playgrounds, it’s a great place to enjoy the outdoors. The Las Trampas creek runs through it.

The park’s natural beauty is enhanced by the seasonal blooms and the serene ambiance, making it a delightful spot to unwind. There’s a wildflower garden surrounding the pickleball courts by the Community Center that makes a beautiful walk.
3. Lafayette/Moraga Trail

The Lafayette/Moraga trail connects the two Lamorinda towns. It follows the former route of a historic railroad line, making it flat, paved, and perfect for cyclists, wheelchairs, kids on scooters and more.

The trail loops up through the Moraga Hills past Saint Mary, surrounded by redwoods and lovely scenery.
2. Lafayette Hillside Memorial

The Lafayette Hillside Memorial is both a poignant and beautiful site. Comprising thousands of crosses (and a handful of Stars of David and Crescents too), this memorial is a powerful tribute and a serene place for reflection.
The hillside location offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding area, making it one of the most visually and emotionally impactful spots in Lafayette.
Many people passing by one BART mistake it for a cemetery, but it’s actually a private cultural site you should definitely stop by and visit.
1. Lafayette Reservoir

Topping the list is the Lafayette Reservoir, Lafayette’s iconic natural attraction.

The Lafayette Reservoir offers a scenic spot for outdoor activities like walking, jogging, fishing, and boating. The reservoir’s loop trail is perfect for a leisurely stroll with stunning views of the water and surrounding hills. It’s especially beautiful during sunrise and sunset, casting a magical glow over the landscape.

The harder rim trail offers expansive views of the reservoir, rolling hills, and the distant San Francisco skyline. The natural beauty of the area, combined with the sense of accomplishment from completing the trails, makes it the most beautiful spot in Lafayette. The lush greenery, diverse wildlife, and stunning vistas at every turn make this trail a true gem.
