Surprising New Ice Cream Store Opens In Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, CALIFORNIA – It’s not too often that a new ice cream place opens right under our noses, without us here at the Bay Area Telegraph hearing about it. And it’s even rarer that such a thing would happen right here in my own home town!

But apparently, that’s exactly what took place this week when a new ice cream shop surprised the community by opening without much warning right in Lafayette Circle/Fiesta Square, by Papillion Coffee and Tutus.

SCOOP Ice Cream in Lafayette is officially open. It’s located at 63 Lafayette Circle.

We found out about the new shop when a reader wrote in to tell us about it. The reader shared the news in the form of a fantastic pun, telling us that they had a “scoop” for the Bay Area Telegraph, which turned out to be true both in the news and the ice cream sense. Pure gold…

Anyway, SCOOP looks like a great place. They don’t make their own ice cream, but rather source it from artisan creators around the Bay Area. The store appears to be crowd funded, raising over $100,000 to open in Lafayette.

SCOOP says “At our core, we are a family-founded and family-run business. We believe the nostalgic, joyful experience of “going to get ice cream” is intergenerational and timeless.”

They also call themselves “a new, homegrown, family-owned, local business.”

SCOOP appears to focus on hard-serve ice cream. Their initial flavor list includes Mexican Chocolate, Mint Chip, Young Coconut, Mango, Ube and more.

They appear to have held several popups to test the store’s concept and build an audience in advance of the grand opening.

When it comes to surprises, the opening of a new ice cream store in our town is a pretty sweet one (see, we do puns, too.) We’ll be checking this place out as soon as humanly possible–make sure to join our free 925 News newsletter so we can let you know how it is!
