Brand New Pinstripes Bowling Alley in Walnut Creek Abruptly Closes as Company Faces Bankruptcy

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — Less than a year after opening at Broadway Plaza, Pinstripes’ Walnut Creek location has closed. The venue’s official reservations page now reads, “Pinstripes Walnut Creek is permanently closed. We thank you for your patronage.”

What happened

Pinstripes Walnut Creek, which debuted on November 15, 2024 with bowling lanes, bocce courts and an Italian-American bistro at 1115 Broadway Plaza, is no longer accepting reservations and is listed as permanently closed.

Locals report online that the Walnut Creek location laid off its staff today.

The Bay Area Telegraph reached out to Pinstripes for comment. A spokesperson for the company wrote that “I can confirm that Walnut Creek has closed. You can see the locations that remain open on the Pinstripes website, which include nearby San Mateo.”

Pinstripes also shared this statement with the Bay Area Telegraph:

With the support of our senior secured lenders, Pinstripes Holdings, Inc. and certain affiliates (the “Company”) filed voluntary chapter 11 petitions, pursuant to which we will seek to run a Court-approved marketing and sale process.  In connection therewith, we have a committed buyer for our continuing locations, and we will continue to market our assets as a going concern to maximize value.  This decision was made to strengthen our financial foundation by reducing liabilities – including closing certain locations – to ensure business continuity and to position the Company for long-term success and growth. During this process, which we intend to move through as quickly as possible, the Company will continue to operate as usual, serving our customers, working with our partners and supporting our team members. Any gift cards or event deposits will be honored at continuing locations, and we are confident this step will allow us to emerge stronger and better positioned to serve guests and stakeholders in the future.

The bigger picture

The closure lands as the Pinstripes parent company faces significant financial pressure and, according to Bloomberg, has been preparing a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. Subsequent coverage indicated the company warned that all 18 venues could be at risk amid the restructuring, though it expected to keep operating through the process.

The statement above appears to confirm this.

Earlier this year, trade media reported Oaktree Capital Management became the company’s majority owner as liquidity issues mounted—another sign of the brand’s financial strain.

Why it matters for Walnut Creek

Pinstripes was a high-profile experiential anchor at Broadway Plaza, taking over the former Crate & Barrel space and adding family-friendly entertainment downtown. Its exit removes a rare large-format bowling/bocce option in the 925—especially notable after the loss of long-running Danville Bowl.
