A Cult-Favorite East Coast Donut Shop is Coming Soon to Walnut Creek

WALNUT CREEK, CALIFORNIA – Duck Donuts, the East Coast donut chain known for handing you a warm, custom-topped donut seconds after it comes out of the fryer, is opening in Walnut Creek.

The company has a Walnut Creek location listed at 2920 North Main Street, Walnut Creek, CA 94597, and it is marked as “Coming December 2025.”

That address is in the North Main Street retail strip just off the I-680/Treat interchange, in that cluster of shopping centers near the Pleasant Hill border. In other words, this will be the first Duck Donuts in Central Contra Costa, and it is basically positioned to serve Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, and Concord in one shot.

Made-to-order donuts, not donut case donuts

Duck Donuts runs on a simple promise: you do not grab a donut out of a display case. You tell them what you want, and they make it hot for you.

Here is how it works. Staff drops batter for a vanilla cake donut into the fryer while you watch. When it comes out, still warm, they dip it in your choice of coating (like cinnamon sugar or maple), add toppings (sprinkles, Oreo crumble, bacon, etc.), and finish with a drizzle. You can build your own or pick from preset combos like maple-bacon or raspberry drizzle.

Shakes, coffee, espresso drinks, and seasonal specials (pumpkin in fall, peppermint in winter) round it out, so it is not just a morning donut place — it is an all-day sugar-and-coffee stop.

Locals are already talking about it

The Walnut Creek shop is not open yet, but people here are already acting like it is a done deal. On social, a Walnut Creek area poster shared the Duck Donuts listing and said they hear the donuts are made to order and “are really good,” which set off a run of excited comments.

That tracks with what we see whenever a new dessert brand lands in Walnut Creek: the area has mochi donuts, gourmet cookies, and ice cream, but there has not been a spot doing hot, custom donuts like this.

When will it open?

Duck Donuts is publicly targeting 2026 for Walnut Creek and is already promoting the shop on its site. The company is also advertising that it is hiring, which is typically a good sign that a place will actually open soon.

The spot used to be a Tmobile, and signs for the old store are still in the window, so there’s some work to be done.

For Walnut Creek, that means this is not a far-off “someday maybe.” The brand is planting a flag, the address is live, and the timeline is specific. Our best guess is early 2026, sometime in January of February.

Translation for Walnut Creek: get ready for maple bacon donuts that are still hot when they hit the box.
