There’s a New Store at Broadway Plaza, and It’s Named After a Fruit

WALNUT CREEK, CALIFORNIA – Every time I hear the name of this new spot that just opened last week at Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek, I think of smoothies and delightful days in the tropics.

That’s because the store is named for a tropical fruit. Sadly (in my opinion) it doesn’t serve smoothies. What it does have instead is upscale and very trendy clothing.

The new store is MANGO.

Yes, the capitalization is apparently intentional, to communicate to you how VERY TRENDY this store really is.

The brand describes itself as a Barcelona-based fashion house, founded in 1984, with collections designed to help people express their individuality.

MANGO is located next to Hollister, which itself just opened last year.

MANGO started in 1984, created by entrepreneur Isak Andic. Over the decades it has grown into a global operation: the company says it now has nearly 2,850 points of sale across 120+ markets worldwide, with international sales making up the bulk of its business.

They apparently love physical stores, even in the Internet age. The company said it hit its goal of 40 company-owned U.S. stores in 2024 ahead of schedule (aiming to end 2024 with about 42), and planned more than 20 additional openings in 2025 to reach around 65 company-owned stores nationwide.

The stores are supposed to have a New Med look and feel, kind of like an airy home in Spain that happens to be filled with pricey clothing.

The founder reportedly chose the name because he went on a trip to the Philippines, tried a mango, and liked it.

You can check out MANGO over at Broadway Plaza (1275 Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek, CA 94596).
