Bank Robbery in Lafayette Leads to Manhunt, School Area Lockdown

LAFAYETTE, CA — Lafayette police arrested two suspects Tuesday afternoon after an attempted bank robbery sparked a large police response near Moraga Road, including a short-lived alert telling residents to avoid the area around Brook Street and Lafayette Circle, authorities said.

Officers began searching the area after the Lafayette Police Department issued an alert around 2:20 p.m. directing people to steer clear of Moraga Road, Brook Street, and Lafayette Circle while police looked for an attempted robbery suspect.

By 2:41 p.m., police said two people had been detained and that no additional suspects were outstanding, though officers continued searching the area as a precaution.

Police have not publicly identified the bank involved in the attempted robbery, and officials have not yet released details about what happened inside the branch or whether any money was taken.

The Bay Area Telegraph received a tip that this happened at the Chase Bank in Lafayette. Again, though, we don’t have official confirmation yet.

Investigators also indicated the suspects may be connected to another robbery in Alamo, according to the police information cited in local coverage.
