Love Pokemon or MTG? A New Store in Pleasant Hill is Just For You

PLEASANT HILL, CALIFORNIA – Normally, joining a guild is something you do in MMORPGs or perhaps a real-life, tabletop game like Dungeons and Dragons.

But a new “guild” in Pleasant Hill is offering something of that experience, only in an actual bring and mortar store.

Gamer’s Guild of Pleasant Hill says it is now open upstairs at 1928 Contra Costa Blvd. in Pleasant Hill, after announcing a soft opening for Friday, Jan. 30.

The broader Gamers Guild brand appears to be centered on trading card games and tabletop hobbies. Its main website highlights Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, board games, Dungeons & Dragons, Warhammer and hobby supplies, and also lists existing store locations in Tempe and North Phoenix. That suggests the Pleasant Hill shop is the company’s newest brick-and-mortar expansion.

What shoppers should expect is a mix of card games, role-playing games, miniatures, board games and hobby gear.

And if the Pleasant Hill location follows the model shown elsewhere on the company’s website, it could become more than a retail stop over time: Gamers Guild’s site also includes store event listings and in-store gaming infrastructure.

No word on whether fighting orcs is required for admission.

For local fans of Pokemon, Magic, D&D and tabletop gaming, this is a notable new addition in central Contra Costa. We will be watching to see what regular events, product drops and community nights develop at the new Pleasant Hill location.
