A Popular Lafayette Office Store is Moving, and Some Locals Expect Big Impacts

Lafayette, California — A longtime office store located in downtown Lafayette, California is reportedly moving.

That might not seem like a huge deal at first. There’s always another place to pick up your packing tape and boxes, right?

Locals who have relied on the store for years, though, tell us that the move is a big deal to them for one specific reason.

The store in question is the UPS Store located on Mount Diablo Blvd. This local location has served Lafayette for decades.

Public records show that it’s been at its current location at 3527 Mount Diablo Blvd. for at least a decade. And the store has been in Lafayette, or at least a member of the Lafayette Chamber, since 1985.

Readers shared with the Bay Area Telegraph that the UPS Store will be moving to the current location of Lafayette Pack and Ship + Print. That one is at 3559 Mount Diablo Blvd., closer to the heart of downtown.

We stopped by the UPS Store to confirm this. Employees there told us that they are indeed moving to that new location.

There’s not been an official announcement yet, but locals tell us the move could happen as soon as April 1.

So why is it such a big deal for certain folks in the community? One of the main services the UPS Store provides is private mailboxes. These make it easy for people to have a consistent mailing address if they move around frequently within Lafayette, or to have a business address separate from their home.

Some locals have held mailboxes at the UPS Store for a decade. The address for those mailboxes is tied to the physical address of the store.

With the store reportedly moving, that means that all those mailbox customers will have to update their address on all their official documents and correspondence, instead of everything previously going to the UPS Store’s current location.

Customers have presumably been told about the move and what to do. If you frequently use this downtown office store, keep an eye out for its new location as soon as next month.
