WALNUT CREEK, CALIFORNIA – Genova Deli in Walnut Creek was a multi-generation institution. When its final location on South California closed earlier this year, locals were distraught.
We stopped by on the last day to say goodbye to this WC icon.
Now, though, we’ve learned that a new restaurant is coming in to fill Genova’s spot.

MIXT, the San Francisco-grown salad, bowl, and sandwich brand, now lists a Walnut Creek location as “Coming Soon” on its official website.
The new restaurant is listed at 1105 S California Boulevard, with planned daily hours of 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and features including pickup, delivery, indoor seating, and outdoor seating.

That’s right by Philz Coffee, PNC, CVS, Fleming’s, and other restaurants and shops clustered around South California Boulevard and Mount Diablo Boulevard.
The Basics
MIXT has not yet listed an exact opening date on its own Walnut Creek page, but signs on the window reportedly promise a Summer 2026 launch.
We’ve heard that July is the planned launch date, but don’t quote us on that!

The company describes itself as San Francisco-grown and “OG Salad Makers since 2006,” with a backstory that began when its founders wanted to make salad feel like a full meal rather than a side dish. The company says its first MIXT opened in San Francisco’s Financial District less than a year after that original idea.
The brand has grown into a recognizable Bay Area name, with locations already listed in San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, San Ramon, Mill Valley, San Mateo, Southern California, and Dallas.

MIXT is also a Certified B Corporation. B Lab’s directory lists MIXT as certified since August 2018, in the restaurants and food service industry. B Corps are businesses that mix for-profit status with a social mission.

The Menu
The Walnut Creek menu page shows the familiar MIXT lineup: big salads, warm bowls, design-your-own options, sandwiches, sides, drinks, and treats.

Salads listed for Walnut Creek include the Brussie, Sonoma, Jing’s Chili Crisp, Beetnik, Falaf, Orchard, MIXT Cobb, MIXT Caesar, Bachelor, Mandarin, and Puebla. The Beetnik, for example, includes MIXT greens, arugula, roasted golden beets, avocado, goat cheese, toasted walnuts, dried cranberries, caramelized fennel, savory herbs, and balsamic vinaigrette.
The menu also includes warm bowls such as the Bangkok Bowl, Barbecue Bowl, Dave’s Taco Bowl, Mediterranean Bowl, and Bachan’s Bowl. Sandwiches listed for the Walnut Creek location include the Smokey, Napa, Park, and MIXT Crispy.

In other words, this is likely to be a lunch-heavy spot, but not a salad-only one. Between the bowls, sandwiches, kids options, and drinks, MIXT appears positioned for quick weekday lunches, post-shopping meals, office pickup orders, and casual dinners.

It’s not quite a replacement for Genova, but it’s at least in the same general category.
