WALNUT CREEK, CA — It is officially happening: Raising Cane’s has confirmed to Bay Area Telegraph that it plans to start construction this summer at 2955 N. Main Street in Walnut Creek, the current Wendy’s site on North Main.
A Raising Cane’s rep told Bay Area Telegraph in a Monday morning email that the company’s real estate team confirmed plans for the site.
“We plan to start construction at this site located at 2955 N. Main Street this summer,” the rep said. “We will be converting the existing building to give it a Raising Cane’s look and feel.”
We even got confirmation of the planned timeline for opening, and it’s different than most locals expected–read on!

That means Walnut Creek’s long-rumored chicken finger arrival is no longer just a permit trail, a local rumor, or some very exciting restaurant detective work. It is now confirmed.
The Former Wendy’s Site Is Getting a New Look
The address is currently listed by Wendy’s as the chain’s only Walnut Creek location, operating at 2955 North Main St.

We previously reported that the Wendy’s location is closing, with signage at the restaurant saying its final day would be Tuesday, May 12.
The new confirmation also helps clarify what is planned for the building itself. Rather than simply saying a new restaurant is coming somewhere nearby, Raising Cane’s says it will be converting the existing building to give it the chain’s distinctive look and feel.

That should mean a major visual change for a familiar North Main Street fast food stop. They’re likely going to make substantial changes to the building’s architecture, rather than just putting up a new sign on the existing space.
The Permit Trail Was Already Strong
This confirmation follows earlier permit data reviewed by Bay Area Telegraph showing that a tenant improvement and change-of-restaurant permit had been conditionally approved for the site, changing it from Wendy’s to Raising Cane’s.
A separate commercial sign permit for “RAISING CANE’S” was also issued, covering wall signs, window signs, drive-thru directional signs, a menu board with awning, a drive-thru speaker post, and the chain’s “One Love” channel letters.
At the time, the permits made it look extremely likely that Cane’s was coming. But there is a difference between “the permits sure look like it” and “the company just confirmed it.”
Now we have the latter.
What Raising Cane’s Serves
Raising Cane’s is famous for a deliberately simple menu built around chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast, Cane’s Sauce, coleslaw, and drinks. Its official menu includes combos like The Box Combo, The Caniac Combo, the 3 Finger Combo, and a chicken finger sandwich combo.

For East Bay Cane’s fans, Walnut Creek would be a convenient new stop. Raising Cane’s official California location list already includes Bay Area and Northern California cities such as Hayward, Oakland, Fairfield, San Jose, and Vacaville.
When Will It Open?
This is a bigger buildout than many people anticipated!
While there were rumors about a Summer 2026 opening, the Raising Cane’s rep told us something different “We anticipate opening early next year.”
So plan around a Winter/Spring 2027 opening, NOT a new restaurant this Summer. Again, that probably reflects the most extensive and involved construction process that the brand has planned.
As always with restaurant openings, dates can move. But the big question — whether Walnut Creek is actually getting Raising Cane’s — now has an answer.
Yes. It is official.
