WALNUT CREEK, CALIFORNIA — One of Walnut Creek’s most anticipated restaurant openings finally has a date.
Marufuku Ramen, the San Francisco-born ramen restaurant known for its Hakata-style tonkotsu bowls, will officially open its new Walnut Creek location on Wednesday, May 27, according to an announcement shared with Bay Area Telegraph.
The new restaurant is located at 1630 Cypress Street in downtown Walnut Creek, a spot the City of Walnut Creek previously identified as the future home of Marufuku Ramen.

A Big Opening for Downtown Walnut Creek
The arrival of Marufuku is a major get for downtown Walnut Creek, especially for anyone who has ever waited in line at the restaurant’s San Francisco Japantown location while quietly calculating whether they would drive back to the East Bay for a bowl of ramen.

Now, Walnut Creek residents will not need to cross a bridge for Marufuku’s signature bowls.
“We’re excited to continue growing in the Bay Area and to introduce Marufuku to the Walnut Creek community,” Eiichi Mochizuki, co-founder of Marufuku Ramen, said in the announcement.
“Our goal has always been to provide an authentic Japanese ramen experience rooted in tradition, quality ingredients and warm hospitality. We look forward to welcoming guests in Walnut Creek to enjoy a comforting bowl with family and friends.”
What Marufuku Is Known For
Marufuku was founded in San Francisco’s Japantown in 2017 and has built a loyal following around its Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen.

The restaurant describes its signature broth as a milky, umami-rich pork bone broth made by boiling pork bones for long hours, paired with ultra-thin artisanal noodles and cha-shu pork.
The broader Marufuku menu also includes chicken paitan ramen, mini rice bowls, izakaya-style appetizers, beer and sake.

But the Walnut Creek location is not just getting the basic Marufuku experience. According to the company, this restaurant will also feature yakitori, exclusive Wagyu dishes, signature cocktails and a curated selection of premium sake.
They’re also known for excellent, inexpensive kid’s meals.

That is notable, because it suggests the Walnut Creek location may function as more of a full Japanese dining destination than a simple ramen counter.
