Lafayette’s Free Summer Concert Series Starts Next Friday

LAFAYETTE, CALIFORNIA — Hear that? It’s the sound of the summer, rapidly approaching!

The Lafayette Chamber’s free Rock the Plaza concert series returns next Friday, June 5, with live music in Lafayette Plaza from 6 to 8 p.m.

The series brings a short run of Friday evening concerts to the small downtown plaza at the corner of Mt. Diablo Boulevard and Moraga Road, giving families and neighbors an easy reason to bring a blanket, grab takeout, and settle in for a warm-weather evening outside.

This year’s opening concert features Jimbo Scott & Yesterday’s Biscuits, a Bay Area Americana band whose sound moves through country, rock, folk, bluegrass, and soul.

A Free Friday Night Concert Downtown

The basic idea is super simple: bring chairs, a blanket, or a picnic, and enjoy free live music in the heart of Lafayette.

The Lafayette Chamber describes Rock the Plaza as a series of free downtown concerts continuing on Friday evenings in June 2026. Bands perform from 6 to 8 p.m., with this year’s dates set for June 5, June 12, and June 26.

The June 12 concert features The Kyle Athayde Dance Party, a New York/San Francisco-based big band known for a wide-ranging sound that pulls from jazz, swing, hip-hop, rock, video games, internet culture, and popular-song arrangements. The June 26 concert will feature Lamorinda Idol finalists, bringing local student singers to the plaza.

What To Know Before You Go

The concerts take place at Lafayette Plaza, 3530 Plaza Way, at the corner of Mt. Diablo Boulevard and Moraga Road.

The Chamber encourages guests to bring a picnic, chairs, or a blanket. The location also makes it easy to pick up dinner from nearby downtown restaurants before or during the show.

The City of Lafayette’s calendar notes that the Chamber has permission to use Lafayette Plaza from 4 to 10 p.m. for the concert dates. The city also says there will be temporary street closures and restricted parking downtown related to the event, so people heading into the area should give themselves a little extra time.
