A familiar name for Tri-Valley cake, pastry and dessert fans is preparing to make its way to Downtown Livermore.
Primrose Bakery, the longtime Pleasanton shop known for European-style cakes and pastries, is expected to open a second location at 154 South J Street in Livermore. The new shop is targeting an early July debut, though an exact opening date has not yet been announced.

The bakery is owned by husband-and-wife team Jesse and Jessica Eiland, who live in Livermore and have long wanted to bring Primrose closer to home.
For locals who have visited the original shop on Pleasanton’s Main Street, the Livermore storefront should feel familiar. Primrose plans to offer its lineup of sweet and savory baked goods, with the Pleasanton location continuing to serve as the company’s central kitchen and baking hub.
Primrose is especially known for desserts that take a more European approach than many traditional American bakeries. The shop describes its cakes and pastries as less sweet and more subtle, while still offering plenty of rich, celebratory options for birthdays, weddings and other special occasions.

Jessica Eiland is a classically trained European cake and pastry chef, and the bakery has built a following around decorated cakes, pastries, cookies, pies and individual desserts. The Pleasanton store has also become a regular stop for customers looking for a late-night dessert, with evening hours that stretch later than many neighborhood bakeries.
The new Livermore location will place Primrose just off First Street in the heart of the city’s active downtown dining and shopping district. It is a short walk from several restaurants, boutique shops and the Bankhead Theater area.
The opening also gives Livermore another locally rooted food business with a strong Tri-Valley connection. Rather than relocating from Pleasanton, Primrose will continue operating its original storefront while expanding its reach to a second city.
For now, Livermore customers will have to wait a little longer before filling a box with pastries or picking up a custom cake close to home. But with the opening expected soon, Downtown Livermore’s dessert options are about to get considerably more tempting.
