Readers Are Raving About a New Taco Spot in Danville

A new taco option has quietly opened in Danville, and readers are already writing in to tell us how great it is. Reader Tony A tipped us off to this one–thanks, Tony!

Chronic Tacos is now open at 420 Diablo Road, in the Green Valley shopping center near downtown Danville. The address was long associated with a Taco Bell, including when the restaurant made headlines after a car crashed into its entrance in 2018.

The Southern California-based chain’s Danville page is now live, with online ordering, catering, a local phone number, and daily hours listed from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The brand’s official locator currently shows Danville as its only Bay Area location.

Tony told us “The tacos and burritos are great. They came here from the LA area and even have a location at the Anaheim stadium. The managers name is Ryan and I think you will enjoy this awesome taco restaurant.”

The Bay Area Telegraph called and confirmed that Chronic Tacos is brand new. Staff members told us it’s been open for about a week.

Chronic Tacos focuses on customizable, California-style Mexican fast casual food. Diners can choose among tacos, burritos, bowls, quesadillas, nachos, and the chain’s signature “Chronic Fries” — crispy fries piled with a choice of protein, toppings, sauces, and salsa.

The menu also includes a California Burrito with steak, fries, guacamole, cheese, and lime, along with a surf-and-turf burrito featuring steak and shrimp.

For tacos, customers can choose proteins including carne asada, pollo asado, carnitas, al pastor, mahi mahi, shrimp, vegetarian fillings, and breakfast options. The tacos can then be ordered street style with onion, cilantro, lime, and salsa; “Gringo Style” with lettuce and cheese; or Baja style with cabbage, pico de gallo, cheese, and Baja sauce.

Chronic Tacos was founded in 2002 and has grown into a multi-state franchise. It’s known for taking elements of SoCal’s taco culture and bringing them to other spots around CA and beyond.

The opening appears to have arrived with relatively little local fanfare. We’re usually pretty good at spotting new places before they come in, but this one flew under our radar. It’s thanks to readers like you that learned about it!

We’ll try to stop in and check it out soon. Make sure to join our free 925 News newsletter so we can update you.
