WALNUT CREEK, CALIFORNIA — We finally have a real date on the calendar for a much-anticipated Walnut Creek opening: MIXT will officially open its new Walnut Creek restaurant on Tuesday, July 14, a spokesperson confirmed to Bay Area Telegraph.
The San Francisco-born salad, bowl, and sandwich chain is taking over the former Genova Delicatessen space at 1105 S. California Boulevard, and it is planning a full six days of giveaways, neighborhood tie-ins, and free food extras to mark the occasion.
The location will be open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., giving Walnut Creek a new option for quick lunches, takeout dinners, post-shopping meals, and other salad-related needs.

MIXT’s Walnut Creek page has listed the address, hours, pickup, delivery, indoor seating, and outdoor seating as it prepared for the launch.
A Big Change for a Familiar Walnut Creek Corner
The restaurant is moving into a spot with serious local history. Genova Delicatessen closed there in February after 58 years in downtown Walnut Creek, ending an era for one of the East Bay’s most beloved Italian deli names.
MIXT is obviously not trying to be Genova 2.0. But it will keep the space in the fast-casual food world — with chef-crafted salads, warm bowls, sandwiches, house-made drinks, and a menu designed around sustainable ingredients.

The company, which opened its first location in San Francisco in 2006, says it prepares food from scratch in its restaurants.
A Whole Week of Opening Festivities
Rather than simply unlock the doors and call it a day, MIXT is turning its first week in Walnut Creek into a mini neighborhood celebration.
Here’s the full lineup:
- Tuesday, July 14: Free MIXT canvas tote bag and a custom veggie-themed patch bar.
- Wednesday, July 15: Special discounts and giveaway prizes in partnership with neighboring businesses Beyond Yoga, TruFusion, and Changes Salon.
- Thursday, July 16: Free custom-engraved bamboo salad servers with purchase.
- Friday, July 17: A noon tasting of MIXT’s Valkyries Agua Fresca, created for its Golden State Valkyries partnership, plus a limited-edition sticker.
- Saturday, July 18: A kids planting table with Sloat Garden Center from noon to 3 p.m., plus free kids meals all day with the purchase of an adult entree.
- Sunday, July 19: Complimentary ice cream scoops from nearby Lottie’s Creamery starting at 1:30 p.m., while supplies last.
MIXT also says it is launching a Free Salad for a Year Sweepstakes for Walnut Creek customers. Entries open July 14 and run through August 14. Guests can enter by placing an order through the MIXT app or by filling out an entry form in the restaurant.

The new restaurant is expected to feature communal seating, a mural by a local Oakland artist, and sustainability-minded design elements.
For Walnut Creek residents who watched the old Genova space sit empty (however briefly) after its emotional closure, July 14 now looks like the day the corner spot turns into something related but new.
