WALNUT CREEK, CALIFORNIA — The mystery restaurant replacing a longtime downtown Walnut Creek sushi spot now has a name.
Salt & Lime is planning to open at 1521 N. Main St., according to a pending license application filed with the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
The restaurant would take over the former Oyama Sushi space, which closed in May after serving downtown Walnut Creek for nearly 13 years.
A Full Bar Appears to Be Planned
Salt & Lime’s ownership company, DTV Corp, applied to transfer a Type 47 alcohol license to the North Main Street address on June 30.
A Type 47 license allows a restaurant to sell beer, wine and distilled spirits for consumption on the premises. That means Salt & Lime appears to be planned as a full-service restaurant with a complete cocktail program rather than a counter-service taqueria.
The name certainly suggests margaritas, tequila and Mexican or Latin-inspired food. However, no menu or detailed description of the concept has been publicly released, so the cuisine has not yet been confirmed.
The license remains pending, and the state record does not include an anticipated opening date.
Familiar Walnut Creek Restaurant Owners Are Involved
The people behind Salt & Lime are already connected to downtown Walnut Creek’s restaurant scene.
State licensing records identify Saul David Tallarico as DTV Corp’s chief executive officer and Antone Sean Dudum as its chief financial officer. Both are also listed as stockholders in the company.
Dudum is publicly identified as an owner of 1515 Restaurant & Lounge, located immediately next door at 1515 N. Main St.
That proximity is particularly interesting. Salt & Lime could effectively give the operators two adjoining but distinct downtown dining concepts — the established American restaurant and lounge at 1515 and a potentially tequila-focused newcomer beside it.
Replacing a Longtime Sushi Restaurant
Oyama Sushi closed at the address earlier this year after operating in Walnut Creek since approximately 2013.
The relatively compact former restaurant space sits along a busy block of North Main Street near Modern China Cafe, 1515 Restaurant & Lounge and several other downtown food and nightlife businesses.
A previous commercial real estate listing described the available restaurant space as approximately 1,641 square feet. The listing has since been taken off the market, another indication that a new tenant has secured the location.
Salt & Lime does not yet appear to have launched a Walnut Creek website or public social media account. For now, the ABC application offers the clearest look at what is coming.
