CONCORD, CALIFORNIA – Drivers in Concord should prepare for additional closures and detours this week as the city’s summer paving program continues across several neighborhoods.
The most immediate impacts are centered around Park Street, where separate paving projects are temporarily restricting traffic near Grant Street and Clayton Road.
On Wednesday, July 29, eastbound traffic remained closed between Grant Street and Clayton Road while crews paved near 2298 Park Street. Westbound traffic was expected to remain open.
Another closure is scheduled for today, Thursday, July 30, near 2101 Park Street. The roadway will be closed to through traffic in both directions between Grant Street and 2199 Park Street while paving takes place.
Drivers who normally use Park Street to travel between downtown Concord and Clayton Road should expect detours and allow extra time.
The work comes as Concord approaches the final days of a much larger residential pavement maintenance project affecting streets in East Concord, Dana Estates and the Monte Gardens neighborhood.
That project is scheduled to continue through Friday, July 31, with work generally taking place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.
Depending on the location and type of work, residents may encounter temporary lane closures, full street closures and posted detours.
Crews are performing several types of pavement rehabilitation, including removing and replacing damaged asphalt, filling cracks and applying protective surface treatments intended to extend the life of neighborhood streets.
The project includes a process known as rubberized cape sealing, which combines a layer of chip seal with a slurry seal placed over the top.
The city advises motorists to follow posted traffic controls and avoid driving through active construction areas whenever possible.
The current schedule is subject to change because of weather, equipment availability or other construction delays.
