DANVILLE, CALIFORNIA — A driver crashed into the front of a popular Danville restaurant Wednesday afternoon, striking structural supports and prompting a specialized rescue response.
The single-vehicle crash happened at Luna Loca Mexican Restaurant and Cantina at approximately 3:15 p.m. on August 19, according to the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District.
The restaurant is located at 500 Sycamore Valley Road West inside The Livery shopping center.
The vehicle struck two structural support beams at the front of the restaurant, San Ramon Valley Fire Chief Jonas Aguiar told Patch. Photos released by the fire district show extensive damage to the restaurant’s exterior and temporary wooden supports installed around the affected section of the building.

Specialized Rescue Team Called In
Firefighters initially provided medical aid to one patient. No one was ultimately reported injured and nobody was transported to a hospital.
Members of the fire district’s Urban Search and Rescue Team responded because of the structural damage. The specialized crew worked with building inspectors to stabilize and shore up the damaged portion of the restaurant.
The crash happened during Luna Loca’s posted operating hours. The restaurant ordinarily opens at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays and remains open until 9 p.m.
Luna Loca has operated in Danville for more than 20 years and describes itself as having three dining rooms in addition to outdoor seating. It is known locally for Mexican dishes, margaritas, brunch and regular events.
The restaurant’s website continues to display normal hours and upcoming events, but it does not appear to include a public update addressing the crash or any resulting interruption to service. Customers planning to visit may want to contact the restaurant first.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed what caused the driver to crash into the building or whether any citation was issued. No information about the driver or vehicle has been released.
Despite the substantial damage to the front of the restaurant, the absence of reported injuries was an especially fortunate outcome for a crash that occurred in the middle of the afternoon during normal business hours.
