A Convenient Walnut Creek Pet Store is Unfortunately Closing
WALNUT CREEK, CALIFORNIA — A convenient stop for pet food, treats and supplies along Ygnacio Valley Road is preparing to close.
Petco at 2820 Ygnacio Valley Road will close September 21, 2026. The company’s other Walnut Creek location and its Concord store will remain open.
The departing store is part of The Orchards shopping center at Ygnacio Valley Road and Oak Grove Road. It’s convenient in terms of parking, and the presence of the big Safeway next door.
For people who regularly use that stretch of Ygnacio Valley Road, losing the store means one fewer option for a quick pet supply run.
The closure comes almost exactly a decade after the location’s debut. Petco’s September 2016 opening announcement listed the North Walnut Creek store among 13 new locations nationwide, with a grand opening weekend scheduled for September 30 through October 2.
Customers will still have two nearby Petco options: the Walnut Creek store at 1301 S. California Boulevard and the Concord store at 1150 Concord Avenue.
And, there’s a Petsmart across the street.

Anyone with grooming appointments, training sessions or other services associated with the Ygnacio Valley Road location should check with the store about arrangements before the closure. Its listed phone number is 925-433-4194.
A reason for the closure and a replacement tenant have not been confirmed. The store will have lots of sales leading up to the closure, we’re told, so now would be a good final time to stop by.
