WALNUT CREEK, CALIFORNIA — A downtown Walnut Creek bar that has welcomed customers for more than half a century could lose its longtime home.
Dan’s Irish Sports Bar, at 1524 Civic Drive, is facing an uncertain future because of a lease dispute, owner Saul Tallarico told NBC Bay Area. He says the bar has operated at that location for more than 55 years.
For customers wondering whether this means a final goodbye, the situation is still unfolding. Recent reports give no firm closing date, and Tallarico is looking for another location in Walnut Creek where he could take the business and its staff.
Tallarico’s connection to Dan’s stretches back decades. He reportedly began working there in 1996 and became its owner in 2011.
He told KRON4 that he spent years negotiating a new lease and completed improvements requested by the landlord during an extension. Then, he said, the proposed arrangement changed.
Tallarico alleges that the property manager sought a $500,000 fee to secure the space over a competing tenant.
Tallarico reportedly filed civil litigation against the property manager, landlord and competing tenant in Contra Costa County. The station said the parties it contacted had not responded at the time of its report.
Those allegations reflect the owner’s account. Bay Area Telegraph has not independently reviewed the lease or court filings.
