Lafayette Has a Local Pumpkin Patch This Weekend, and It’s For a Good Cause

LAFAYETTE, CALIFORNIA – You can pick up a pumpkin, let the kids play a few games and support local Scouts — all without leaving Lafayette this weekend.

Cub Scout Pack 645 is hosting its annual pumpkin patch at the log cabin next to Lafayette Elementary, at the corner of First and School streets. The event runs October 8-11, with pumpkins for sale, carnival games with prizes and a bake sale, according to the Lafayette Chamber’s event listing.

That means there’s still time to stop by this Saturday or Sunday, October 10-11, and find something for the front porch.

A Pumpkin With a Purpose

The patch is part of Operation 1031, which Pack 645 describes as its biggest fundraiser of the year.

The Scouts sell pumpkins and baked goods and host games at the pop-up patch. Proceeds help keep annual dues down and cover the pack’s expenses throughout the year, according to its official events page.

For families buying a Halloween pumpkin anyway, it’s a chance to put that purchase toward a local youth program.

Pack 645 is based at Burton Valley Elementary and serves children in kindergarten through fifth grade from the school and surrounding area. Its program welcomes boys and girls, with activities built around outdoor adventures, learning projects and community involvement.

The pack’s website explains that pumpkin patch participation, together with a supplemental portion of dues, helps pay for programming and supplies such as camping, Pinewood Derby kits, advancement awards and facility rentals.

A Local Fall Tradition

The pumpkin patch also gives the Scouts a role in putting on an event for their neighbors.

Pack 645 calls Operation 1031 an annual tradition for both the pack and the community. With pumpkin shopping, games and baked goods in one place, it offers a straightforward fall outing close to home.

And your pumpkin gets to do a little good before becoming a jack-o’-lantern.

Where to Go This Weekend

Look for the patch at the log cabin beside Lafayette Elementary, at First and School streets in Lafayette.

The Chamber lists the event as running from Thursday, October 8, through Sunday, October 11, 2026, with a final closing time of 3 p.m. Sunday. Check the event listing or contact the organizers for individual daily opening hours before heading over.
