A New ‘Indian Social Dining House’ Is Coming to Mission Rock in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA – A new Indian restaurant is taking shape in San Francisco’s Mission Rock neighborhood, with bright yellow window coverings announcing its arrival.

The restaurant is called Baatein, and signage photographed by Bay Area Telegraph describes it as an “Indian Social Dining House.”

“Celebrations are around the corner,” the windows promise, alongside silhouettes of people eating, drinking and gathering around tables.

The restaurant’s website lists a planned fall 2026 opening. Its name means “conversations,” and the concept centers on Indian regional cooking in a setting designed for gathering and celebration.

Founder Bhanu Pratap Singh Tak brings a background that includes hotel management in Rajasthan. The website also lists chef and cookbook author Suvir Saran as part of the team, describing a role that includes interacting with diners and sharing stories at their tables.

Planned dishes include a biryani tray with saffron, mint and caramelized onions; mustard greens served with cornmeal roti; and a shareable selection of paneer preparations. A tandoor offering brings together lamb chops, mushrooms, stuffed peppers, prawns and chicken thighs. These are preview items, rather than a finalized opening menu.

Baatein would add another dining option to a neighborhood that already has an increasingly substantial restaurant lineup. Mission Rock’s current directory includes Arsicault Bakery, Flour + Water Pizza Shop, Quik Dog, Fieldwork and Via Aurelia, among others.

For now, the yellow-covered windows offer the clearest street-level announcement of what’s coming. The signage gives no specific opening day, and the website’s announced timeline remains fall 2026.
