LAFAYETTE, CALIFORNIA — Get those costumes ready. Lafayette’s annual downtown trick-or-treating celebration is coming back, giving local kids a head start on their Halloween candy collections.
Trick or Treat Street returns Friday, October 30, from 4 to 6 p.m., according to the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce. The community event is free and takes place the evening before Halloween.
For families, that means an opportunity to get another outing out of those costumes — and kick off Halloween weekend with a stroll through downtown.

Participating merchants will welcome children and their parents along Mount Diablo Boulevard, from Lafayette Plaza to Dewing Avenue, as well as around Lafayette Circle and La Fiesta Square. The celebration spreads across several downtown shopping areas, turning a trip past familiar storefronts into a Halloween candy hunt.
Organizers encourage kids to come in costume and bring a trick-or-treat bag. The Chamber’s event listing recommends the celebration for children ages 9 and younger, though it describes admission as free for everyone. Participating businesses will display a Trick-or-Treat poster, helping families identify where to stop.

The annual gathering has grown over the years. In a letter to city officials outlining plans for the 2026 celebration, Chamber Executive Director Sara Regan cited increasing attendance when requesting additional pedestrian safety measures around the event. The Chamber counts Trick or Treat Street among its signature community events.
One detail to keep in mind as you plan your route: the business thank-you list on the Chamber’s event page is labeled 2025, so it should not be treated as this year’s confirmed lineup. Check the official event page for the latest information before heading downtown.
For now, here’s the essentials: Friday, October 30, 4 to 6 p.m., downtown Lafayette. Bring the kids, their costumes, and a bag with room for treats.
