Diwali Street Fair Brings Festival of Lights to Downtown Walnut Creek This Weekend

WALNUT CREEK, CALIFORNIA – Downtown Walnut Creek is getting a festive addition to its fall calendar this weekend, with a free Diwali street fair bringing food vendors, artisan shopping and live performances to the Lesher Center for the Arts.

The Diwali Celebration Street Fair runs Saturday, October 24, from noon to 5 p.m. outside the arts center at 1601 Civic Drive. Presented by the Lesher Center and Diablo Regional Arts Association, the event welcomes visitors of all ages, according to the official event listing.

For families looking for an outing beyond the season’s pumpkin patches and Halloween celebrations, it offers another reason to spend an afternoon downtown.

The fair is part of the Lesher Center’s two-day celebration of Diwali, the Festival of Lights, on October 23 and 24. Saturday’s plans include an artisan market, food vendors and live entertainment in front of the center.

There is also an opportunity to get creative. The Lesher Center’s celebration calendar lists Diwali Mandala Making Workshops with artist Swati Rastogi on Saturday, with programming scheduled between 1 and 4:30 p.m. Visitors can check the workshop listing for participation details.

The weekend celebration also includes a nighttime attraction — but pay attention to the date.

A free drone light show is scheduled for Friday, October 23, the night before the street fair. According to the official drone show listing, Northern Lights Drone Shows will present the display over the Lesher Center beginning at approximately 9:15 p.m.

The show is expected to last 12 to 14 minutes, with a viewing area along Locust Street in front of the center.

Drivers should also plan ahead. Walnut Creek has posted a Diwali street closure and parking advisory for October 23 and 24. Review that notice before heading downtown.

Admission to Saturday’s street fair is free. Find the latest activity schedule and event updates on the Lesher Center’s Diwali page.
