A Prominent Lafayette Shopping Center Just Got a Big Facelift

LAFAYETTE, CA — A familiar row of downtown Lafayette storefronts has a decidedly different look.

The shopping center at Mt. Diablo Boulevard and First Street has traded its green-and-red exterior for a gray-and-white color scheme, giving the building a fresh appearance while preserving its very-Lamorinda exposed beams and covered walkway.

The property is marketed as First Street Corner, across from the Lafayette Library and Learning Center. Its storefronts include familiar stops such as Lafayette Boba and Cuts Unlimited.

The before-and-after difference is striking.

An earlier photo we took of the former Lilikoi Boba storefront shows dark green horizontal beams, reddish posts and red accents beneath the roofline. Newer photos show the wooden framing painted gray, with white walls brightening the recessed storefronts.

The repainting extends underneath the covered walkway, where the overhead boards and supporting beams now share the gray finish.

Photos taken during the work show windows protected with plastic and blue painter’s tape, along with covered light fixtures. A yellow CertaPro Painters banner hangs above the storefronts.

Our “after” photo shows the refreshed exterior along the stretch with Mon Mon Beauty & Spa and the neighboring kung fu studio.

The city’s business directory lists Mon Mon at 3484 Mt. Diablo Blvd. and East West Kung Fu at 3482 Mt. Diablo Blvd.

The center occupies a prominent downtown corner. Its commercial leasing listing describes a roughly 16,300-square-foot property with three buildings and more than 300 feet of frontage along Mt. Diablo Boulevard. The listing gives its construction year as 1978.

This 40+ year old center suddenly looks much newer!
