ORINDA, CALIFORNIA – Kids can start their Halloween trick-or-treating before lunchtime this year — and finish a scavenger hunt with a locally grown pumpkin.
The Orinda Farmers’ Market is planning a “Harvest Style” celebration on Saturday, October 31, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with costumes, trick-or-treating and a booth decorating contest alongside the morning’s shopping.
Staci DeShasier of Contra Costa Certified Farmers’ Markets shared the plans with Bay Area Telegraph in an October 22 email. With Halloween falling on a Saturday, the celebration lines up with Orinda’s regular market day.
A pumpkin at the end of the hunt
The kids’ scavenger hunt comes with a particularly fitting reward: a locally grown pumpkin at the end, according to DeShasier.
Families are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes. The booth decorating contest will add to the festivities as shoppers make their way through the market.
For parents planning a full day of Halloween activities, the morning hours offer a chance to get the kids into costume and out celebrating well before the evening’s neighborhood trick-or-treating begins. You can work in the weekly market trip, too.
Where to go
The Orinda Farmers’ Market takes place on Orinda Way in front of Community Park. It operates year-round on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Downtown Orinda’s calendar also lists the October 31 market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the location given as the Orinda Community Center at 28 Orinda Way.
The Halloween festivities are part of a celebration across Contra Costa Certified Farmers’ Markets’ three markets. According to DeShasier’s announcement, Pleasant Hill’s celebration is also scheduled for Saturday, October 31, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Walnut Creek’s was scheduled for Sunday, October 25.
