You Probably Overlook This Tasty Starbucks Treat Hiding By the Cash Register

Most people who eat fodo at Starbucks probably grab something from the display case, like a protein box or breakfast burrito. But there’s a nice little treat to enjoy with coffee that you might want to check out, hiding right by the register.

I’m talking about Starbucks’ Madeleine cookies. These tiny, buttery gems are easy to grab on your way out, and are a perfect pairing with a bold espresso or foamy latte.

Madeleine cookies are a French creation–like so many tasty baked goods. They’re also sometimes referred to as ladyfingers.

These light and airy cookies are almost perfectly designed to be dipped in coffee.

They’re a bit like the French answer to Italian biscotti. Just as Italian coffee shops often serve solid, dense cookies to dip in their strong espresso, the French, unsurprisingly, prefer something with lots of butter and sugar!

Starbucks’ Madeleines can’t quite rival what you’d get in a French bakery, but they’re still very tasty. These mini delights come in a pack of three. They’re made with the same ingredients you’d find in traditional Madeleines–principally flour, butter, and sugar.

Since these items are designed to be stable for multiple days, Starbucks’ Madeleines do have some preservatives in them, too.

The best way to enjoy these is either as a side dish to munch on along with a latte, or something to dip right into a tall, drip coffee.

My Madeleine Taste Test

I recently got some Starbucks’ Madeleines at the local restaurant in Moraga, California. I like that Madeleines come in a pack of three, which gives you plenty of little cookies to nibble on as you sit down in Starbucks to get some work done or just people-watch.

Yes, these probably aren’t as healthy as an egg white breakfast sandwich or any of Starbucks’ excellent Mediterranean diet items. But if you’re in the mood for something indulgent that isn’t quite as decadent as the chain’s glazed donuts or sugary Frappuccinos, the Madeleines are a great option.

They’re also the perfect item to get for your kid if you want to bribe them to join you at Starbucks. I got little packs of Madeleines for my three-year-old and two-year-old, and they both loved gobbling the cookies down.

These aren’t as crumbly as Starbucks’ chocolate chip cookies or brownies, which also makes them a great item to grab at the drive-through and give to your kids in the car as a special treat.

You might overlook these cookies if you’re a frequent Starbucks visitor. They’re tucked in alongside the chocolate-covered espresso beans and other random items at the checkout.

But if you’re looking for something tasty and easy to grab the next time you’re at Starbucks, consider a pack of Madeleine cookies and see what you think.
