What Happened to Walnut Creek’s Fountain Head?

If you’re walking around downtown Walnut Creek, California you might notice a major absence. The East Bay city’s public art sculpture Fountain Head is missing.

The iconic piece of public art features a giant yellow baby head (some readers say it’s a Buddha head) that is–you guessed it–part of a fountain.

It’s been there for decades, but now it’s gone.

Don’t freak out, though–the removal is temporary. According to signs surrounding the missing art, Fountain Head was removed for periodic maintenance and restoration.

It makes sense that a giant baby head with continuously flowing water would need a touch-up every once in a while. It’s a periodic process that we’ve seen happen before. The last restoration was back in 2012, and provided over a decade of additional enjoyment of this super cool art piece.

Before long, Fountain Head will be back.

In the meantime, you can enjoy/take selfies with Walnut Creek’s other iconic public art installation, Bull Man With Bulldog.
