Expect Big Delays on 680 This Weekend. Here’s Why.
San Ramon, CA – Get ready for some big delays this weekend if you’re planning to drive on 680 near the Tri-Valley.
Caltrans will implement partial closures on southbound I-680 between Alcosta Boulevard in San Ramon and the I-580/I-680 connector in Pleasanton starting Friday, October 18, at 9 PM. The closures will remain in effect until Monday, October 21, at 4 AM.
The lane closures are part of a pavement repair project aimed at improving road safety and reducing the need for future nighttime closures. During the work, three right lanes will be closed, while two left lanes will stay open.

Full Shutdown Locations:
- Alcosta Blvd. on-ramp to southbound I-680
- Alcosta Blvd. off-ramp to San Ramon Valley Blvd.
- San Ramon Valley Blvd. on-ramp to southbound I-680
Detour Routes:
- From Vacaville/Fairfield: Stay on I-80 to southbound I-880.
- From Benicia Bridge: Take I-780 west to I-80, then head southbound on I-880.
- From Concord: Use SR-4 to I-80 to southbound I-880, or take SR-24 to I-80 to southbound I-880.
- From Walnut Creek: Take SR-24 to I-80, then head southbound on I-880.

- What’s Closed: Three right lanes of southbound I-680 between Alcosta Blvd. and the I-580/I-680 connector.
- What’s Open: Two left lanes of southbound I-680 will remain accessible.
Caltrans advises drivers to plan ahead, follow detour signs, and expect delays. The California Highway Patrol will be on-site to assist with traffic management.
