LAFAYETTE, CALIFORNIA — If your kids stop to stare whenever a fire engine passes or a backhoe starts digging, an upcoming downtown Lafayette event will give them a much closer look.
The Rotary Club of Lafayette is bringing its Keep on Truckin’ community event back for a third year on Saturday, October 3.
The family-friendly fundraiser will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Golden Gate Way, behind the Lafayette Library & Learning Center.
An Entire Street of Massive Vehicles
Organizers plan to transform part of downtown Lafayette into a showcase of trucks, emergency vehicles and heavy equipment.
The expected lineup includes fire engines, police vehicles, garbage trucks, dump trucks, backhoes, concrete pumpers and cherry pickers. Children will be able to explore the vehicles, meet some of the people who operate them and learn how the equipment is used around the community.
Lafayette Rotary says the event will also include games, food trucks and additional activities for families.
The exact selection of vehicles may change as participating agencies and companies finalize their plans. Previous events have included vehicles from the Lafayette Police Department, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, East Bay Municipal Utility District, Republic Services and Central Contra Costa Sanitary District.
There have also been some unusual additions, including a historic fire engine, a tow truck, construction vehicles and the enormous Doggie Diner heads.

Previous Event Drew Thousands
Keep on Truckin’ has quickly grown into one of Lafayette Rotary’s largest family events.
Organizers said the 2025 edition attracted more than 2,000 people and raised over $10,000 for Monument Crisis Center.
The event’s appeal is fairly straightforward: kids get permission to climb around the kinds of enormous machines they normally see only from a distance, while parents can introduce them to firefighters, police officers, utility workers, equipment operators and other people who keep the community running.
It also provides a hands-on way for children to learn what different vehicles do — from collecting garbage and repairing water lines to fighting fires and completing major construction projects.
Supporting Monument Crisis Center
Proceeds from this year’s event will again benefit Monument Crisis Center, a Concord-based nonprofit serving Central and East Contra Costa County.
The organization provides groceries, educational programs, referrals and other resources to low-income individuals and families. Monument Crisis Center says more than 15,000 households are enrolled in its food-distribution program.
The center began in 2003 with a single food closet serving 84 families. Its programs now include food distribution, youth enrichment, senior support, health and wellness services, workforce development and assistance connecting families with other community resources.
Lafayette Rotary is also seeking local businesses and organizations interested in sponsoring the October event. Current sponsorship options include a $250 Heavy Hauler level and a $500 Big Wheel level.
How to Attend
Keep on Truckin’ is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event will take place on Golden Gate Way behind the Lafayette Library & Learning Center, located at 3491 Mount Diablo Boulevard.
General admission costs $10 per person. A $30 family ticket covers two adults and two children. Larger families can purchase additional individual tickets.
