Alarms were raised in Pleasant Hill, California and Antioch on Thursday afternoon after robbers allegedly attempted to steal from a 7-Eleven, led police on a chase that involved a helicopter, and then crashed their car into the fence outside of Antioch Middle School.
The incident reportedly began when suspects approached a delivery truck that was dropping items off at the 7-Eleven store in Pleasant Hill, California. The store is located at 601 Patterson Blvd.
The suspects allegedly took multiple cartons of cigarettes from the truck’s cargo area. Employees called the police, and while the suspects fled the area, the Pleasant Hill police ultimately tracked them down on Highway 4 near Concord.
A helicopter came to assist and followed the vehicle as it drove into Antioch. A large number of police officers responded as the chase neared Antioch Middle School at F and 13th Street.
Ultimately, the suspects reportedly crashed their car into a fence at the middle school and then took off on foot. Multiple police departments—from Antioch, Pittsburg, and the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office—set up a perimeter, assisted by the helicopter circling overhead.
Ultimately, all four suspects were apprehended and arrested.
It sounds like a great example of multiple local police forces coming together to stop a crime in progress and bring the perpetrators to justice.
