I Visited This Brentwood U-Pick Farm and Found Branches Groaning Under Tons of Cherries

BRENTWOOD, CALIFORNIA – U-pick season is officially here, and farms around Brentwood, California have trees groaning under branches filled with fruit!
I headed to Three Nunns Farm to see what was ripe.
Three Nunns is located about 45 minutes from Lamorinda and the heart of the 925. They’ve got easy parking in a big field.

You check in at a barn and then ride a tractor out to the fields. They do charge a small fee for the tractor ride, but it’s worth it because it’s really an attraction in and of itself.

Three Nunns has been farming this area of Brentwood since the 1880s and offering farm visits since the 1970s. That means they have the process down to a fine science.

The farm grows all kinds of fruit throughout the summer and then transitions to a corn maze and pumpkin patch in the fall.
When I visited in June, we were right in the height of cherry season, and cherries are really the highlight here.
Three Nunns also has a big field of strawberries to pick, as well as very limited stone fruit at the moment and blackberries.

The tractor shuttles you around to each of the picking stops. The strawberry field had tons of ripe berries and is very easy to walk among the rows and fill up a bucket.

Over in the cherry section, it was a bit farther of a walk to the trees, but once you’re there, there’s tons of fruit.
Three Nunns Farm does supply ladders, but honestly, you don’t need them. There was plenty of fruit that my kids could pick right at their level.
I like how Three Nunns includes small attractions at each stop. There is a tiny roller coaster, vintage toy tractors for kids to ride, and more.

And then there’s the highlight of the cherry stop – a little food truck selling homemade popsicles.

These are milky and delicious and are made from fruits like apricots, peaches, and others sold and grown right at the farm.
When you arrive back at the barn, a staff member weighs the fruit that you’ve picked, and you pay only for what you actually took. Three Nunns also has delicious olive oil, jams, and local honey.
It does get quite hot, and the fields are very exposed, so make sure to bring a hat, sunscreen, and water.
There are restrooms at each of the picking stops as well, which I appreciated, and it’s perfect for visiting with kids.

If you’re looking for a great activity to do with the family that costs under $100 – even for a big group – and allows you to leave with giant bags filled with delicious fruit, Three Nunns is a great option!
