Downtown Pleasant Hill has landed a heavyweight tenant: Osaka Marketplace, a full-scale Japanese grocery and food-hall concept set to take over the former Orchard Supply Hardware space. The center has already added a placeholder store page listing the market as “Coming Soon.”

The incoming store will fill roughly 42,000 square feet in the shopping center’s big-box pad once occupied by OSH at 155 Crescent Plaza, part of the Downtown Pleasant Hill complex at 105 Crescent Drive. A leasing document for OSH shows that exact Pleasant Hill box at 42,351 sq ft, which aligns with the center’s description of a 42,000+ sq ft footprint.
When will it open? Downtown Pleasant Hill’s press materials circulated to media put the opening in November 2025. However, a City of Pleasant Hill update last week described the timeline as “mid-2026.”
We’ve asked the center to clarify the schedule; a spokesperson said “Opening date for Osaka is November 2026.”

What to expect inside
Osaka Marketplace plans a broad Japanese grocery selection alongside ready-to-eat options and a “grocerant” (portmanteau of grocery + restaurant) food-hall vibe.
City communications note the operator intends to reuse the former OSH garden area as a semi-outdoor market hall with several mini eateries such as sushi, ramen, karaage, and bento. That would mirror the brand’s popular Fremont flagship, which combines groceries with a cafe and food court.

“We are excited to welcome Osaka Marketplace to Downtown Pleasant Hill,” said Jon Schweers, Senior Property Manager of Downtown Pleasant Hill. “This dynamic new addition will enhance the shopping and dining experience for our visitors while celebrating the rich culture and flavors of Japan.”
Why it matters for the 925
Asian specialty grocers are surging across the Bay Area, from Tokyo Central in Emeryville to T&T in San Jose and H Mart in Dublin. Foster City is also getting an Osaka Marketplace this fall, reflecting strong demand for authentic ingredients and prepared foods. Pleasant Hill’s 42,000-sq-ft version would be one of the largest new food-focused draws on the I-680 corridor.
Where exactly
The site is the former OSH big-box pad within Downtown Pleasant Hill, near the Century Theatres complex and Ross. Historic maps and photos show OSH’s position inside the center, which is being adapted for the market.

The store window has a bunch of signs on the window for a while but yea, implying it was near opening but now it seems more likely in 2026 as the interior looks okay (as an old Lucky’s) (empty but not ‘under construction’ looking inside).
