ANTIOCH — A 9-year-old boy was shot Sunday afternoon, Nov. 2, in the 300 block of Sunset Drive, and Antioch police say a 17-year-old suspect was arrested shortly afterward.
Officers were called just after 4:30 p.m. and found the child wounded; he was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive, according to multiple outlets citing police.
What police say happened
Initial details from Antioch police indicate the shooting happened at or near a smoke shop on Sunset Drive. In reporting by KTVU, a police lieutenant said the teen opened fire at a man with whom he had an ongoing feud; the rounds allegedly missed the intended target and struck the 9-year-old in the neck while the child was in a back room of a family member’s shop. The teen suspect’s name has not been released because he is a minor.
