“Disgusted At the State of the Housing Debate”: Pleasant Hill Councilmember Holds Meeting Over Emotional Rezoning Talks

PLEASANT HILL — District 2 Councilmember Andrei Obolenskiy will host an in-person meeting for constituents on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 5:30 p.m. at Magoo’s Grill and Bar, 1250 Contra Costa Blvd., to talk about emotionally-charged future amendments to Pleasant Hill’s 2040 General Plan.

Obolenskiy previously wrote in an op-ed that he is “disgusted at the state of the housing debate.”

The General Plan, adopted in 2023, guides city decisions on new development and public improvements through 2040.

Obolenskiy says the goal is to help residents understand how the General Plan and Zoning Map work together and to gather input on targeted, compliant updates the community may want to see over time.

The discussion comes ahead of an expected final City Council vote on a comprehensive rezoning ordinance for consistency with the 2040 General Plan and Housing Element on Nov. 17. More background on the plan is available at the city’s 2040 General Plan website.

Obolenskiy was appointed to represent District 2, which runs along I-680, in 2024 and is a local small business owner.
